Profiles

Documentary research into the history of medicine and related subjects in the geographical area of the old Crown of Aragon has a long tradition, which includes some very notable names. The bio-bibliographical profiles of these major protagonists appear below: on the one hand, the founders of these studies (Josep Rodrigo Pertegàs, Lluís Comenge and Josep M. Roca), and on the other the principal researchers in the twentieth century (Antoni Cardoner i Planas, Luis García Ballester and Michael R. McVaugh).

As well as these leading figures, many other researchers have made outstanding contributions to these studies, either through specialized documentary research (Lluís Cifuentes, Carmel Ferragud, Marialuz López Terrada, José Pardo Tomás, Àlvar Martínez Vidal, Jon Arrizabalaga, Mercedes Gallent Marco, Antoni Contreras Mas, Alfons Zarzoso, etc.), or by way of broader research subjects, like those listed below, or with other heterogeneous contributions (Ramon Jordi i González, Vicente Dualde Pérez, Jean-Pierre Bénézet, Josep Danon, those made in the journal Gimbernat, the Diccionari biogràfic of Josep M. Calbet i Camarasa and Jacint Corbella, but also the one by Ernest Wickersheimer, continued by Danielle Jacquart, etc.).

The broader research subjects that have borne fruit for this documentary history of medicine and health care in the old Crown of Aragon include the history of culture (Julià Bernat Alart, Josep Coroleu, Joan Segura i Valls, Antoni Rubió i Lluch, Josep Rius i Serra, Jeanne Vielliard, Martí de Barcelona, Amada López de Meneses, Josep Trenchs, Josep Perarnau i Espelt, Gabriel Ensenyat, etc.), the history of books (Josep Sanchis Sivera, Manuel Betí, Eduard Junyent, Jordi Rubió i Balaguer, Josep M.
