Natural de Puigcerdà. Fill de l'apotecari de Cervera, Jaume de (I) Berga (m. 1324) i d'Esclarmonda (filla de Pere Fabra) (fl. 1327). Pare de Pericó de Berga (fl. 1370). En quedar orfe de pare, el seu avi, l'apotecari de Puigcerdà Pere Fabra (fl. 1296 – 1327), es comprometé a fer-se càrrec d'ell i de la seva mare i portar-lo tres anys més tard a Cervera donant-li 12 ll b. L'any 1368 fou esmentat a un document com a conseller d'aquesta vila. — Formes antigues del nom: «Jacobus de Berga» (llatí), («Jacme de Berga») (català).

Valuation of the workshop of Guillem Metge, an apothecary from Barcelona, made by the apothecaries Miquel Tosell, Berenguer Duran and Vicenç Bonanat, for its sale to Llorenç Bassa, a fellow apothecary, 1364 (AHPB); 4. Peter III the Ceremonious regularizes the legal situation of Esteró, a Jewish female doctor from Vilafranca del Penedès, granting her an extraordinary license to practice medicine. 1384 (ACA); 5. Partnership between Joan Llunes and Joan Francesc Llunes, father and son, and Lluís Gual, the former’s son-in-law, surgeons of Caldes de Montbui, in order to practise the profession, 1579 (AHCB).
