Noble. Fill de Ramon d'Urtx-Mataplana i germà de Ramonet d'Urtx-Mataplana, a la mort del qual (1297) heretà la baronia de Mataplana i la vall de Toses (Hug [VII] de Mataplana). Fou comte consort de Pallars Sobirà (1297-1328), com a marit de Sibil·la de Pallars (c. 1282 – 1330). Foren fills de la parella, entre d'altres, Arnau Roger II i de Ramon Roger II, successivament comtes de Pallars Sobirà, i d'Hug (VIII) de Mataplana, senyor de Mataplana.

Partnership between Joan Llunes and Joan Francesc Llunes, father and son, and Lluís Gual, the former’s son-in-law, surgeons of Caldes de Montbui, in order to practise the profession, 1579 (AHCB).
