Comentaris
Eclesiàstic i trobador occità, originari de Pradas de Salars (Roergue, actual departament d'Avairon). Documentat des de 1191 actuant com a testimoni en actes notarials relatius als monestirs de Bonnecombe i Bonneval, a Roergue (Larghi 2011, discutit per Chambon 2015a). Relacionat amb la noblesa local (els comtes de Roergue; els Andusa, fr. Anduze; i els Rocafuelh, fr. Roquefeuil, cat. Rocafull) i amb altres trobadors actius a la regió. S'oposà als càtars i el 1214 fou nomenat canonge de la catedral de Rodés i, més tard, també de la de Magalona. Des del seu nomenament a Rodés apareix esmentat com a "mestre", que reflecteix, probablement, una formació superior a les escoles catedralícies. Essent a Magalona, el 1242 participà en la fundació de la Facultat d'Arts de la propera Universitat de Montpeller. El 1244 ja era mort. A Rodés fou substituït per un seu nebot homònim, la formació i carrera eclesiàstica del qual impulsà, i amb el qual sovint ha estat confós (Larghi 2011). Se'n conserven una vintena de poesies líriques i moralitzants (Melani 2016), i dos extensos tractats en vers, l'un sobre les quatre virtuts cardinals, dedicat a Étienne de Chalençon, bisbe de Lo Puèi (1220-1231) (Ricketts 2002), i l'altre de falconeria (Romans dels auzels cassadors) (Schutz 1945). — Formes antigues del nom: «Deodatus de Pratis», «Deodatus Prades» (llatí), «Daude de Pradas» (occità).

The small images on the decorative ribbon correspond, from left to right, to the following documents: 1. James II orders the settlement of neighborhood disputes over an estate of the royal doctor Arnau de Vilanova in the city of Valencia. 1298 (ACA); 2. Contract between Guglielmo Neri de Santo Martino, a surgeon from Pisa, and the physician-surgeon from Majorca Pere Saflor, bachelor of medicine, to practise medicine and surgery under the latter’s direction, 1356 (ACM); 3. Valuation of the workshop of Guillem Metge, an apothecary from Barcelona, made by the apothecaries Miquel Tosell, Berenguer Duran and Vicenç Bonanat, for its sale to Llorenç Bassa, a fellow apothecary, 1364 (AHPB); 4. Partnership between Joan Llunes and Joan Francesc Llunes, father and son, and Lluís Gual, the former’s son-in-law, surgeons of Caldes de Montbui, in order to practise the profession, 1579 (AHCB).
