Doctor en ambdós drets, governador de la província del Principato Citra Basilicata, al regne de Nàpols, i oïdor i jutge de la vegueria de Nàpols. Fill d'un mercader de Valls. Es casà amb Isabel d'Icard, filla del cavaller Lluís d'Icard i de Requesens, castellà del Castell Nou de Nàpols (mort a Nàpols el 1531), amb la qual tingué sis fills, entre els quals Lluís Ponç d'Icard (1518/1520 – 1578). Tot i la residència obligada a Nàpols, mantingué el contacte amb Tarragona, on nasqué el seu fill Lluís. Fou adobat a cavaller el 1528. — Formes antigues del nom: «Johan Pons».

Partnership between Joan Llunes and Joan Francesc Llunes, father and son, and Lluís Gual, the former’s son-in-law, surgeons of Caldes de Montbui, in order to practise the profession, 1579 (AHCB).
