Rei de Sicília insular o Trinàcria (1337-1342), com a fill i successor de Frederic II (III) de Sicília (Trinàcria) (1272 – 1337) i d'Elionor de Nàpols. Quan els Anjou trencaren la pau de Caltabellota (1302), el seu pare es negà a complir la clàusula que preveia el retorn de l'illa a aquells a la seva mort, el nomenà vicari seu (1317), el féu coronar com a successor i l'associà al govern (1321). Succeí el seu pare el 1337. Consort: Elisabet de Caríntia. Entre els seus fills: Elionor de Sicília (1325 – 1375), reina de la Corona d'Aragó, Lluís I de Sicília (Trinàcria) (1337 – 1355) (1342-1355) i Frederic III (IV) de Sicília (Trinàcria) (1342 – 1377) (1355-1377).
