El rei Pere III mana al veguer i al batlle de Montblanc que no consentesca que en aquella vila practiquen la medicina físics o cirurgians («audeat medicine ut cirurgie officium exercere») sense haver estat examinats i trobats aptes, tal com resa a les Constitucions de Catalunya, atesa la imperícia detectada en molts practicants («propter impericia medicorum infirme egentes fisicorum et cirurgicorum auxilio incurrant irreparabili detrimentum in Constitutionibus Cathalonie, provide fuit cautum ne quisquam auderet medicine vel cirurgie officium exercere nisi per peritas personas in dictis artibus prius examinatus essent repertus sufficiens atque aptus»).

The small images on the decorative ribbon correspond, from left to right, to the following documents: 1. James II orders the settlement of neighborhood disputes over an estate of the royal doctor Arnau de Vilanova in the city of Valencia. 1298 (ACA); 2. Contract between Guglielmo Neri de Santo Martino, a surgeon from Pisa, and the physician-surgeon from Majorca Pere Saflor, bachelor of medicine, to practise medicine and surgery under the latter’s direction, 1356 (ACM); 3.
