Bos, Gerrit, Novel Medical and General Hebrew Terminology from the Middle Ages, Leiden - Boston, Brill, 2023, vol. 6 (xiv + 246 pp.).

Resum
The current volume is part of a wider project aiming at mapping the novel Hebrew technical medical and general terminology as it features in medieval Hebrew medical works translated both from Arabic and Latin. It is my hope that this volume, just like the earlier ones, will facilitate the consultation of medical works and the identification of translators whose identity is unknown or uncertain. An example is the Sefer ha-Mezonot, a Hebrew translation of Abu Marwan ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Zuhr, K. al-Aghdhiya. My analysis of the technical terminology of the Sefer ha-Mezonot and comparison with that featuring in Nathan ha-Meʾati's Sefer ha-Peraqim (Pirqei Moshe), i.e., his translation of Maimonides, K. al-Fuṣūl fī al-ṭibb ("Medical Aphorisms"), confirms the supposition that Nathan is also the translator of this treatise. And in another case, namely that of the translation of Ibn Sīnā, K. al-Qānūn fī al-ṭibb II, my research casts doubt on certain assumed identities and calls for a new investigation into all the material at hand.
