Resum

The Interpretatio de visionibus in somniis by Arnau de Vilanova has only been conserved in a single manuscript: Barcelona, ACA, Casa Reial 1. We also know of the existence of a second manuscript (now disappeared) which served as the basis for the edition published by Matthias Flacius Illyricus in 1562. In this article, we describe this codex and reconstruct the origin, circumstances and history of the Interpretatio based on contemporary documentation (letters between King James II and King Frederick of Sicily, Clement V, Arnau de Vilanova and occasionally others). We reach the conclusion that the Barcelona, ACA, Royal House 1 copy is unquestionably the original copy of this work that James II sent to Frederick of Sicily on the 4th of October 1310 and most likely the same copy that Clement V sent with a bull to James II on the 8th of June 1310.
We also study the variations in the edition by M. Flacius (1562) compared to the Barcelona text. In this edition, some fragments are omitted, while others are simplified, and there is also one addition. The majority of omissions (texts in favour of the Pope's authority or expressing ideas attacked by the reformers) seem to be attributable to the publisher; however, the addition, which provides context, must come from the previous manuscript.
